Weather conditions in the last five years have led scientists to become suspicious of an approaching global disaster. Recently, the Horn of Africa faces the worst drought in more than half a century. Episodes of exceptional drought continue its hold on the southern states of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and neighboring states. Currently, more than half million people live under extreme drought conditions.
I-SWEEEP organizers and sponsors would like to recognize exceptional projects that introduce creative solutions for drought prevention and mitigation, and/or ways to improve agriculture in drought regions. Exciting prizes will be presented to the winners at I-SWEEEP 2012.
The projects related to the following topics will be considered under this special category:
- Effective methods and best practices to prevent periods of water scarcity and drought
- Inventive solutions to fight against famine in East Africa
- Innovative ways to improve agriculture in drought region and model practices for farmers
- Best practices to promote rational water use by the agricultural sector
- Novel alternative solutions to help save or recycle water
